School bookings

School group booking request form deadlines:

  • Fall (September – December) school bookings request form deadline is September 1st
  • Winter (January – March) school booking request form deadline is December 1st
  • Spring (April – June) school booking request form deadline in March 1st

Recreation Excellence will review all requests and contact the teacher to confirm the booking. 

Request forms received after the deadline are subject to availability.

Ice skating

Public skate for school groups

  • One time booking during public skating
  • One or more groups of students
  • Open for students in kindergarten through to grade 12
  • Teachers, volunteers, or guardians are expected to provide on ice (wearing skates and a helmet) supervision for all students under 12 years of age, as per the admission policy below:
    • Children under 12 years of age must be actively supervised in the space or facility that they are in. The guardian is expected to be in the same space, on the ice (wearing skates), or in the gymnasium, or in the fitness centre actively supervising and monitoring the children. Maximum of 5 children per guardian.
  • Includes:
    • Minimum of 1 hour during an existing public skate time for your class
    • Skate rentals (subject to availability)
    • CSA approved helmet rentals (subject to availability)
    • Skate aids
  • Rates based on:
    • Number of skaters:
      • 1 – 10 students = $40.00/hr
      • 11 – 20 students = $75.00/hr
      • 21 – 30 students = $115.00/hr
      • 31 – 50 students = $190.00/hr
      • 51 – 70 students = $265.00/hr
    • Additional staffing
    • Duration of the booking
    • Special set up and take down
    • Additional equipment
    • Additional spaces or room rentals

Private skate for school groups

  • One time private ice booking
  • One or more groups of students
  • Open for students in kindergarten through to grade 12
  • Teachers, volunteers, or guardians are expected to provide on ice (wearing skates and a helmet) supervision for all students under 12 years of age, as per the admission policy below:
    • Children under 12 years of age must be actively supervised in the space or facility that they are in. The guardian is expected to be in the same space, on the ice (wearing skates), or in the gymnasium, or in the fitness centre actively supervising and monitoring the children. Maximum of 5 children per guardian.
  • Includes:
    • Minimum of 1 hour of private ice rental for your class
    • Skate rentals (subject to availability)
    • CSA approved helmet rental (subject to availability)

      • 1 – 40 students = $80.00/hr
      • 41 – 80 students = $150.00/hr
      • 81 – 120 students = $210.00/hr
      • 121+ students = $250.00+/hr (includes the required skate marshall)

Ice skating lessons for school groups

  • Series of bookings (4, 6, or 8 bookings per set of lessons)
  • One or more classes (max 40 students per set of lessons)
  • Students will received skating instruction from Certified Skating Instructors
  • Students are grouped together based on skating ability (beginner, intermediate, or advanced)
  • Students will work on skating skills, standing, starting, stopping, moving forward, moving backward, and turns
  • Students will build balance, strength, flexibility, and endurance while playing games, relays, and drills
  • Students will have some unstructured play time on the ice to practice and play
  • Teachers, volunteers, or guardians are expected to provide on the ice (wearing skates and a helmet) supervision for all students under 12 years of age, as per the admission policy below:
    • Children under 12 years of age must be actively supervised in the space or facility that they are in.  Maximum of 5 children per guardian
  • Includes:
    • 1 hour of private arena ice rental for each lesson
    • Certified skating instructor
    • Skate rentals (subject to availability)
    • CSA approved helmet rentals (subject to availability)
    • Skate aids
  • Each visit the students receive:
    • 1 hour of ice time:
      • 30 minutes of instructor lead skating instruction
      • 30 minutes of unstructured skating
  • Rates based on:
    • Number of lessons (up to 40 students):
      • $960.00 for a 4 lesson set (4 x 1 hour lessons)
      • $1440.00 for an 6 lesson set (6 x 1 hour lessons)

Insurance

Rental groups, schools, clubs, and sport organizations are required to provide proof of insurance documentation for a $5 million dollar liability policy listing the following as additional insureds:

  • Canadian Recreation Excellence Corporate
  • Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine
  • Upper Skeena Recreation Centre

Cancellations

2 weeks notice of cancellation is required for a full refund. Full fees apply to cancellations less than 14 days.

Damage deposits

Refunded damage deposits are dependent on the condition of the space and equipment after the rental. The Recreation Excellence team will conduct pre and post event inspections with the event host to determine the expectations and requirements. The damage deposit refund may be processed up to 2 business days after the event.

Supervision requirements

Teachers, volunteers, or guardians are expected to provide supervision for students under 12 years of age, as per the admission policy below:

  • Children under 12 years of age must be supervised (on the ice, wearing skates, or in the gymnasium or in the boardroom) by a guardian 19+ years of age. Maximum of 5 children per guardian.
