Taekwondo  (14+ years) – Taekwondo is a form of Korean martial arts involving kicking, and punching techniques.  The program builds self confidence with defensive skills, concentration, and flexibility.  The development of physical literacy skills enhances your balance, coordination, and body awareness, all while having fun and being active.  Taekwondo kits are available for use, or you can purchase pieces as you go.

Adult Hip Hop Cardio (18+ years) – This hip hop class includes hip hop styles such as groove, funk, breaking, locking, popping, waving, and street dance. It includes a warm up, isolations, stretch, centre footwork, breaking floorwork, across the floor exercises, and a combo or choreography.

Adult Jazz (18+ years) – This jazz class is an open class that follows the needs and abilities of the adult dancers. It includes terminology, barre, centre work, and across the floor exercises. Repertoire, combos, and choreography may be done depending on the ability of the adult dancers.

Adult Tap (18+ years) – This tap class is an open class that follows the needs and abilities of the adult dancers. It includes terminology, rhythm study, centre work, and across the floor exercises. Repertoire, combos, and choreography may be done depending on the ability of the adult dancers.

Adult Ballet (18+ years) – This ballet class is an open ballet class that follows the needs and abilities of the adult dancers. This class includes terminology, barre, centre work, and across the floor exercises. Repertoire, combos, and choreography may be done depending on the ability of the adult dancers.

For children and youth

Dance

Registration is based on the participants’ age as of the first day of class and may have prerequisite skill requirements.

Our local dance instructor is CDTA Ballet, Modern, Jazz, and Acro Arts 1 certified, and holds a Bachelor of Dance, with distinction from the University of Calgary. Assistant dance instructors and approved volunteers may attend from time to time.

Dance program details:

  • Classes are typically scheduled twice a week and may include up to 12 lessons.
  • Classes may be grouped together based on registration numbers.
  • Dancers come dressed in attire (comfortable active wear) and dance specific footwear.
  • Ballet and tap shoes will be available to rent for the series.
  • Parents are invited to attend during posted observation class dates.

Each group of dancers will perform in the end of series recital. Family and friends are encouraged to attend. Admission is typically $5.00 per person and flowers will be available to purchase as tokens for the dancers. Please note this event is a fundraiser for the dance program.

Ballet classes

Tiny Tots Ballet (3 years) – This once a week class is ballet-based and introduces a ballet foundation while also exploring creative movement through different ranges of motion, fun songs, and props. This class includes a fun warm up, centre work, across the floor exercises, a freedance, and a cool down dance. A group dance is created at the end of the session led by the instructor and assistant.

PreBallet (4 years) – This once a week class is ballet-based and builds on strengthening a ballet foundation and technique while also exploring creative movement through different ranges of motion, fun songs, and props. This class includes a fun warm up, centre work, across the floor exercises, a freedance, and a cool down dance. A group dance is created at the end of the session led by the instructor and assistant.

Kinder Ballet (5 years) – This once a week ballet class continues to build and focus on ballet technique while still having fun. This class includes a fun warm up, centre work, across the floor exercises, a freedance, and a cool down dance. A group dance is created at the end of the session and performed with little help from the instructor.

Primary Ballet (6 years) – This ballet class is more structured and has more focus on ballet technique. This class includes terminology, centre work, across the floor exercises, a freedance, and a cool down dance. A group dance is created at the end of the session and performed with little help from the instructor.

Junior Ballet (7–10 years) – This ballet class follows the CDTA Grade One Ballet Syllabus. This class includes terminology, barre, centre work, and across the floor exercises. A group dance is created at the end of the session and performed with little to no help from the instructor.

Novice Ballet (10–13 years) & Teen Beginner Ballet (13–17 years) – This ballet class follows the CDTA Grade Two and Three Ballet Syllabus and will begin to build flexibility, strength, and conditioning. This class includes terminology, barre, centre work, and across the floor exercises. A group dance is created at the end of the session and performed with little to no help from the instructor.

Intermediate Ballet (12–15 years) – This ballet class follows the CDTA Grade Four and Five Ballet Syllabus and increased flexibility and strength is expected. Students must have completed the levels in Novice Ballet to be eligible for this class. This class includes terminology, barre, centre work, and across the floor exercises. A group dance is created at the end of the session and performed at a competitive level.

Senior Ballet (14–17 years) – This ballet class follows the CDTA Grade Intermediate and Advanced Ballet Syllabus and a great amount of flexibility and strength is expected. Students must have completed the levels in Intermediate Ballet to be eligible for this class. This class includes terminology, barre, centre work, and across the floor exercises. A group dance is created at the end of the session and performed at a competitive level.

Jazz classes

Primary/Kinder Jazz (5–6 years) – This jazz class introduces the style, techniques, and foundations of jazz dance. This class includes a fun warm up, centre work, across the floor exercises, a freedance, and a cool down stretch. A group dance is created at the end of the session and performed with little help from the instructor.

Junior Jazz (7–10 years) – This jazz class builds on jazz techniques and follows the CDTA Primary and Grade One Jazz Syllabus. This class includes terminology, barre, centre work, and across the floor exercises. A group dance is created at the end of the session and performed with little to no help from the instructor.

Novice Jazz (10–13 years) & Teen Beginner Jazz (13–17 years) – This jazz class follows the CDTA Grade Two and Three Jazz Syllabus. This class will begin to build flexibility, strength, and conditioning. It includes terminology, barre, centre work, and across the floor exercises. A group dance is created at the end of the session and performed with little to no help from the instructor.

Intermediate Jazz (12–15 years) – This jazz class follows the CDTA Grade Four and Elementary Jazz Syllabus and increased flexibility and strength is expected. Students must have completed the levels in Novice Jazz to be eligible for this class. It includes terminology, barre, centre work, and across the floor exercises. Hip Hop classes

This class follows the CDTA Primary and Grade One Tap Syllabus. It includes terminology, rhythm study, centre work, and across the floor exercises. A group dance is created at the end of the session and performed with little to no help from the instructor.

Novice Tap (10–13 years) & Teen Beginner Jazz (13–17 years) – This tap class follows the CDTA Grade Two and Three Tap Syllabus will begin to build musicality, dexterity, and tap technique. It includes terminology, rhythm study, centre work, and across the floor exercises. A group dance is created at the end of the session and performed with little to no help from the instructor.

Intermediate Tap (12–15 years) – This tap class follows the CDTA Grade Four and Elementary Tap Syllabus and increased musicality, dexterity, and precision is expected. Students must have completed the levels in Novice Tap to be eligible for this class. It includes terminology, rhythm study, centre work, and across the floor exercises. A group dance is created at the end of the session and performed at a competitive level.

Senior Tap (14–17 years) – This tap class follows the CDTA Grade Intermediate and Advanced Tap Syllabus and a great amount of musicality, dexterity, and precision is expected. Students must have completed the levels in Intermediate Tap to be eligible for this class. It includes terminology, rhythm study, centre work, and across the floor exercises. A group dance is created at the end of the session and performed at a competitive level.

Modern classes

Novice Modern (10–13 years) – This modern class introduces the style, techniques, and foundations of modern and contemporary dance. Students must have taken at least one year of ballet to be eligible for this class. This class follows the CDTA Grade One and Two Modern Syllabus and will begin to build flexibility, strength, and conditioning. It includes terminology, barre, centre work, across the floor exercises, and creative movement/improvisation. A group dance is created at the end of the session and performed with little to no help from the instructor.

Intermediate Modern (12–15 years) – This modern class follows the CDTA Grade Three and Four Modern Syllabus and increased flexibility and strength is expected. Students must have completed the grades in Novice Modern to be eligible for this class. It includes terminology, barre, centre work, across the floor exercises, and creative movement/improvisation. A group dance is created at the end of the session and performed at a competitive level.

Senior Modern (14–17 years) – This modern class follows the CDTA Grade Five and Six Modern Syllabus and a great amount of flexibility and strength is expected. Students must have completed the grades in Intermediate Modern to be eligible for this class. It includes terminology, barre, centre work, across the floor exercises, and creative movement/improvisation. A group dance is created at the end of the session and performed at a competitive level.

Acro classes

Novice Acro (10–13 years) – This acro class introduces the style, techniques, and foundations of acro dance. Students must have taken at least one year of ballet or jazz to be eligible for this class. This class follows the Acro Arts Levels 1 – 3 and will begin to build flexibility, strength and conditioning. It includes terminology, cardio warm up, strengthening, limbering, balancing, tumbling, and stretching. A group dance is created at the end of the session and performed with little to no help from the instructor.

Intermediate Acro (12–15 years) –This class follows the Acro Arts Levels 4 – 6 and increased flexibility and strength is expected. Students must have completed the levels in Novice Acro to be eligible for this class. It includes terminology, cardio warm up, strengthening, limbering, balancing, tumbling, and stretching. A group dance is created at the end of the session and performed at a competitive level.
